4 MORE Reasons to Blog Even if No One Reads Your Blog

At the very beginning of 2012, I wrote a post called 4 Reasons to Blog Even if No One Reads Your Blog. I’m sure by now all of you have read that post ;). Just in case you haven’t, you can read it HERE. I recently have been less motivated to write blog posts. I love having published content and I love seeing the final product of my posts but the act of writing sometimes seems daunting because I have so many ideas for different posts that I end up feeling overwhelmed. I literally have 20 blog posts I want to write at any given time. I’ve thought about hiring a ghost writer but it might be difficult for them to transcribe my thoughts so for now I’m still writing away. To encourage both my readers and myself to keep blogging , I have 4 MORE Reasons to Blog Even if No One Reads Your Blog.

1. Blogs are your digital scrapbooks- Five years ago, I used to make scrapbooks for trips I took. This became difficult because all the photos I take are now from my digital camera so dropping off my negatives at the store and picking up the photos was no longer an option. This also required me to collect a lot of clutter (brochures, ticket stubs, etc) in the hope that it *might* go into my scrapbook. I decided to create mementos of my travels and adventures digitally.  This allows me to share my scrapbook with all of you. It also allows me to access it at any time, anywhere. This saves space since I don’t have to physically store my digital scrapbooks anywhere. Here are some blog posts that serve as my digital scrapbooks for travel:

2. Blogging builds credibility- This is especially important when you are job seeking. If you want a job in a specific industry and can demonstrate your knowledge and expertise through blog posts you have written, this will  impress your potential employer. For example, if you’re seeking a job in the Fashion Industry, you’ll definitely have an edge over your competitors if you already have a Fashion Blog. This goes for many other industries as well. If you’re seeking a job in the Film Industry why not have a blog with movie reviews, film analysis, etc.  If you’re seeking a job in Social Media (which is a popular industry for a lot of you reading this) then having a blog with social media tips, observations and  current trends will help you demonstrate your expertise.

3. Express your creativity-  Since it’s your own blog, you’re allowed to do whatever you want (granted that it’s not anything obscene if you are in fact going to share it with employers). Add fun photos, post interactive videos, express your personality through your own creative writing style. The great thing about blogs is that you can be authentic and really personalize your writing.

4. Grow your network- Blogging connects you to so many new people. There are blogger meetups and events you can attend to meet your readers in real life or connect with new people who may be interested in your content. San Diego has its very own SD Bloggers meetup group that has events a few times a year. By having your own blog, you have an opportunity to connect with other people who are just as passionate about sharing their hobbies, interests, career ventures and more.
